Long Life Empowerment and HH Chungtsang R.’s Birthday this weekend!

Join us Saturday, November 19th as Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin bestows the long-life empowerment of Amitayus, in the tradition of Rechungpa. In the Tibetan tradition, this powerful practice for lengthening life is often taken prior to beginning long retreats or practice cycles such as Ngondro, in order to ensure the practitioner lives to complete the practice.

amitayusempowermentThe empowerment practice will begin at 10AM on Saturday, with a lunch provided at noon. In the afternoon, there will be instruction on the practice.

On Sunday, we will celebrate the Lhabab Duchen, the festival commemorating Buddha Shakyamuni’s return from the Tushita God Realms. We will also celebrate His Holiness Chungtsang Rinpoche’s birthday, with members of the local Tibetan community. Smoke offerings and so on are on the agenda, dress appropriately in case of rain! Bring a food item to share in with the community on this auspicious day!

Medicine Buddha Empowerment and Teaching next Sunday!

Sunday, October 23rd Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin will bestow the empowerment of Medicine Buddha in the morning, followed by a teaching on Medicine Buddha’s aspiration vows upon attaining Buddhahood.  Medicine Buddha is a bodhisattva who made the aspirations to benefit sick and dying beings through limitless Buddha activities.  The practice of Medicine Buddha is not only powerful for healing illnesses and disease, but also for overcoming the sickness of attachment, hatred, and ignorance.

The empowerment ceremony will begin at 10AM, followed by a break for lunch from noon until 2PM, and a teaching by Khenpo Tsultrim until 5PM.  Standard suggested donation of $45 applies, nobody is turned away for lack of funds and all are welcome.

Naga Puja on Sunday, October 9th!

This coming Sunday, October 9th is an auspicious day for practicing the naga puja that propitiates the local nagas.  Gyalpo Rinpoche empowered and taught the TMC this special practice of Nagaraja Buddha at the request of Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin in 2015, and it is important to regularly practice on appropriate days.  This Sunday is an appropriate day to join in this excellent practice.

The naga spirits are waterborn spirits said to exist in the human realms, whose king became a follower of Buddha.  The practice of Nagaraja Buddha involves the evocation of the nagas, and making offerings of food and teachings of Buddhism to the nagas.

Because nagas are extremely particular, we request that anyone attending please refrain from eating any meat, eggs, or strongly pungent foods such as onions, prior to attending.

Practice will be led by Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin, who is recovered from his operation.

A Look Ahead:

On October 16th, Khenpo Tsultrim will resume his teachings on the Uttaratantra Shastra.
On October 23rd, Khenpo Tsultrim will bestow the empowerment of Medicine Buddha in the morning, and teach on Medicine Buddha’s eight aspiration vows in the afternoon.

More details will be forthcoming as the time approaches.

“How to Live in Happiness” by Khenchen Rinpoche

Khenchen Rinpoche has been teaching from a small booklet of verses he has composed. The five verses are presented here in English and Tibetan, with permission.

1. Composite phenomena are impermanent like water-bubbles.
There is no instant of real happiness in samsara.
Those who desire to be released from the seal of suffering,
The wise ones, should take refuge in the Triple Gem.

2. The source of all happiness and joy
For oneself and all sentient beings,
Is loving kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta.
This is the basic disposition of cause and result dependent relation.

3. All phenomena are discursive thoughts
And discursive thoughts are solely mind.
Mind, as it is, is primordially unborn,
Like the sky, free from boundaries and a center.

4. From the natural radiance of Dharmakaya, free from proliferation,
The power of the union of wisdom and compassion spontaneously arises.
Within the dimension of the knowable the awakened activities are performed
For the benefit of beings in whatever way they are tamed.

5. One’s own mind is set in the state of bliss
By mindfulness, alertness, and heedfulness.
In the mandala of ultimate bodhicitta
Within the non-referential sphere, the root of virtue is dedicated.

This has been composed by the eminent Khensur Konchog Gyaltshen on the 4th of September, 2014.
Translated by Konchog Yeshe Metog, Schneverdingen, September 2014.
