Khenchen Rinpoché returns for Annual Spring Retreat

Saturday May 29th - Friday June 4th
10 AM - Noon
Program: "Samsara and Nirvana, Two Sides of the Same Hand"
Teacher: Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoché
This will be an incredible opportunity to receive the transmission and
teachings from Khenchen Rinpoché on his latest composition
"Samsara and Nirvana, Two Sides of the Same Hand." This text was
completed in "early Spring of 2009" in Madison. It masterfully explains
samsaric confusion in all its various aspects, the powerful means and
methods for purifying this confusion, and the result of complete
purification of samsaric confusion. Rinpoché's text is grounded
in Kyobpa Jikten Sumgön's teachings, distilling the vastness of
this great being's wisdom so that we are able to digest and benefit
from it.
"Even though the mode-of-abiding nature of samsara-nirvana is inseparable,
Interdependent causality is what dominates on the relative level, and so
I composed this brief text in reliance on a pure teaching-tradition
In a way appropriate to various beings’ mental states."
Saturday May 29th - Friday June 4th
2 PM - 5 PM
Program: Teachings on Gongchik - "The Single Intention"
Teacher: Khenpo Konchog Choephel
Khenpo Konchog Choephel will teach the root-verses of Gongchik - the most distinctive teachings of Kyobpa Jikten Sumgön. These vajra-verses
were collected together by Chenga Sherab Jungné (1187-1241) who
served Kyobpa Rinpoché for 11 years as his personal
attendant and thus heard all the public and private teachings that
Kyobpa Rinpoché gave. The vajra-verses in Gongchik present the entire collection of the Buddhas' teachings as a single, comprehensive/unified (chik) system that expresses the supreme intent/mind (gong) of all the Buddhas.

Saturday June 5th
10 AM - 12 PM & 2 PM - 5 PM
Program: Achi Chökyi Drolma Empowerment & Teachings
Vajra Master: TBA
Achi Chökyi Drolma is the great grandmother of Kyobpa Jikten
Sumgön who was a great practitioner and emanation of Vajrayogini.
She pledged to protect the teachings, lineage and disciples of
Kyobpa Rinpoché and thus is the special protector deity of
Drigung Kagyü followers. While the power and influence of a
protector is generally seen as diminishing the further away one is from
the origin-place of the protector, Achi is said to have promised that
the further away a sincere practitioner who relies on her is, the more
powerful she will be for this person. Thus, although we are far away
from Drigung, we can know that Achi's protective powers are magnified
accordingly.
Sunday June 6th
10 AM - 12 PM & 2 PM - 5 PM
Program: Celebration of the Anniversary of Kyobpa Jikten Sumgön
Led by Khenchen Rinpoché, Khenpo Choephel & Drupon Thinley
Kyobpa Jikten Sumgön (1143-1217) is the Second Nagarjuna and
started the Drigung Kagyü lineage with the establishment of
Drikung Thil Monastery in Central Tibet in 1179. This year is the 793th
anniversary of his passing into parinirvana. The celebration at TMC will commence with a special sang-offering
followed by the Lama Chöpa & Feast-offering practice (Please
bring food-offerings for the Feast). In the afternoon, we will gather
for Guru Yoga practice and the recitation
of Kyobpa Rinpoché's vajra-songs. Offerings of lamps (all around the center) will be done after sundown.
Monday June 7th - Saturday June 12th
10 AM - 12 PM & 2 PM - 5 PM
Program: Teachings on Dedication Practice, Special Bodhicitta & Inner-yoga
Teacher: Drupön Thinley Ningpo
Drupön Thinley Ningpo will continue with teachings from the
Drigung Kagyü preliminaries, focussing this year on
Dedication and Special Bodhicitta. The Special Bodhicitta practice is
the first branch of the Five-Fold Profound Path of Mahamudra and it is
a special feature of the Drigung Kagyü. In his famous vajra-song on the Five-Fold Profound Path, Kyobpa Rinpoché wrote:
“If the steed of love and compassion
Does not run for the benefit of others,
It will not be rewarded in the assembly of gods and humans.
Attend therefore to the preliminaries.”
Furthermore, he also taught that, "While
others consider the advanced teachings to be profound, in my system the
preliminaries are the truly profound."
Drupön Thinley will also teach an aspect of the Inner-yogas that
is especially effective in preventing illnesses and maintaining good
health to support one's Dharma practice.
Sunday June 13th
10 AM - 12 PM
Program: Thanksgiving Lama Chöpa & Feast-offering & Katag-offering to the Lamas.
As we have the expenses of caring for our teachers and upkeep on our
buildings and grounds, we appreciate a suggested donation of $45 per day
for the retreat, though
no one will be refused attendance due to an inability to donate the
full amount. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Please email DrikungTMC@gmail.com to pre-register and to receive information on local, inexpensive housing.
